Podsljeme – Forest near the City
Podsljeme is a district in the City of Zagreb that covers residential quarters in the northern part of the City on the slopes of Medvednica. It covers Šestine, Mlinovi, Gračani, Markuševec and Vidovec. It's a quiet neighbourhood with numerous family houses and residential villas.
Because of its exclusive location and seclusion from the centre of the City, a large number of urban villas have been built in this area in the last 15 years.
These are also settlements that lead to numerous hiking trails towards the favourite resort of people of Zagreb – Sljeme. It is the top of Medvednica at 1035 meters above sea level. There is also a ski slope on Sljeme, one of the locations for the Ski World Cup (Snow Queen).
In Šestine there is also the church of St. Mirko built in 1240 or the Šestine church, as the people of Zagreb prefer to call it, is one of the most beautiful churches in Zagreb, also known for the fact that Ante Starčević, the father of the homeland, was buried in the vicinity.
